The Athletes Village is one of the most significant new urban developments in the UK. The purpose built development by Delancey and Qatari Diar, consists of 12 individually designed apartment blocks and several hectares of public realm.
The area housed 23,000 athletes and officials for the duration of the games, and now during the legacy phase, is being transformed into a brand new London district, including 2,818 new homes. The Village will deliver 2,818 new homes, including 1,379 already purchased by joint venture Triathlon Homes to become high-quality affordable housing with all new homes built to Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4 and designed for modern, sustainable living.
ToughGlaze were tasked with providing 2,500m² of 17.5mm of high quality laminate to all the athletes apartments. All the panels supplied where heat soaked to negate the potential of glass failure through inclusions, most notably Nickel Sulphide. The design of the balustrade required us to manufacture the laminate with 2 No precision holes to ensure the stainless steel bolts fit, without increasing stress on the glass.
