At the end of 2025, we touched on some of the key predictions that might steer the glass industry in 2026.

The headline prediction? AI and decarbonisation would take centre stage in how architects, manufacturers and suppliers balance high-value delivery with rising costs and changing consumer demand. 


Now we're halfway through the year, and it's time to see how architectural glass trends have progressed throughout 2026. We'll also consider what might be on the horizon for 2027 and beyond.


Architectural glass trends to watch

Architectural glass is increasingly being specified for what it can do, rather than simply how it looks.


Qualities such as transparency, natural daylight and visual connectivity remain fundamental to contemporary architecture. However, the emphasis is shifting towards products that deliver measurable environmental and operational benefits.


Beyond sustainability: resilience could be the new buzzword

Sustainability has been a bit of a buzzword for many years, and with good reason. It has consistently featured in core trend predictions across almost every commercial category, and corporate responsibility standards have risen as fast as operational costs.


Companies are expected to balance strong profit margins with greener practices. This means working harder to attract the best workers in a world where safe, attractive working environments are no longer a nice-to-have. Today, they are a moral and strategic priority. 


But alongside sustainability, the concept of resilience is cropping up more and more – and a key emerging driver is climate adaptation.


Government guidance accompanying the UK's Future Homes and Buildings Standards places greater emphasis on designing buildings that are resilient to overheating as the climate warms. This focus has big implications for glazing.

And while these standards apply only to new builds, there's growing interest in whole-life carbon, which is rapidly becoming embedded in planning policy and procurement.

Many public-sector clients, local authorities and major developers now require whole-life carbon assessments, while Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) are becoming expected during specification. The voluntary UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard, launched by industry bodies, is also accelerating this shift.

According to one report, the decorative glass market size was estimated at $80.44 billion in 2024. It's projected to grow from $84.87 billion in 2025 to $145.14 billion by 2035.

Considering these figures, it's easy to conclude that aesthetics remain as important as ever. While carbon, climate adaptation and intelligent design are becoming increasingly strong market drivers, consumers aren't sacrificing their desire for good form in the name of good function.

Or, as the report highlights, "Rising demand for aesthetic appeal and a growing focus on energy efficiency are key drivers propelling the decorative glass market forward."


Simply put: they want glass products that are functional and attractive. 

For instance, the report highlights how tinted glass is gaining traction due to its energy efficiency and aesthetic benefits.
