Your questions answered

  • What does "low-e glass" mean?

Low-e glass (low-emissivity glass) has a thin, transparent coating that reduces the amount of heat that can pass through the glass by radiation. It's commonly used in energy-efficient double- and triple-glazed windows to improve thermal insulation.

Low-e glass is sometimes called "thermal insulating glass" or "solar-control glass".

  • How does low-e glass work?

The low-e coating reflects infrared heat back towards its source. In winter, this helps reflect heat from inside the home back into the room, reducing heat loss through the glazing. Depending on the type of coating, low-e glass can also help limit solar heat gain in summer while still allowing visible light to pass through.

ClimaGuard 365 is a high-performance low-e glass designed for all seasons. As well as retaining heat in winter, it can make the home up to 9°C cooler in summer.

  • Does low-e glass have a tint?

Low-e glass can appear tinted or reflective when viewed under certain lighting conditions. This is a natural byproduct of the low-e coating.

However, ClimaGuard 365 is designed from the ground up to be a beautifully clear low-e glass product. Its double-glazed configuration achieves 75% visible light transmission and a colour rendering index (CRI) of 95, helping retain natural light and a neutral, natural-looking appearance.

  • Is ClimaGuard 365 low-e glass available as single panes?

No. ClimaGuard 365 is only available as part of a double- or triple-glazed IGU. That's because the low-e silver coating is protected by the IGU assembly.

  • What does ClimaGuard 365 low-e glass cost in the UK?

At ToughGlaze, we cut and process ClimaGuard 365 to your exact specifications. For a personalised quote, please don't hesitate to get in touch and discuss your needs with our experts.
