Frequently asked questions

  • How do you screen print on glass?

Screen printing is a tried, tested and trusted technique for decorating glass. Next time you're on the high street, have a look around – you'll see it everywhere.

Your design is created with a stencil and then applied to the glass by spreading ink across a mesh screen. Like stencilling at school, the ink flows around the stencil to apply the design.

Next, the glass is fired. When it comes out, it's extremely durable – and the colours are guaranteed to last as long as the glass they've been applied to.

Screen printing isn't the same as digital ceramic glass printing – but they can be used in conjunction with one another.

  • How big can screen-printed glass be?

At ToughGlaze, you can order screen-printed glass with a maximum size of 1,700 millimetres by 2,900 millimetres, with a thickness range of four to 19 millimetres.
