Glass in the home serves multiple functions, whether as part of windows, doors or partitions.

Primarily, of course, it acts as a barrier you can see through. But these days, modern window technology is just as much about thermal performance, acoustic performance and security.

At ToughGlaze, we now stock ClimaGuard® 365 – a product created in partnership with Guardian Glass and Morley Glass.

It's a high-performance, low-emissivity (low-e) glass designed for residential windows and doors – one specially manufactured to keep homes warmer in winter and cooler in summer.

Low-e glass is a kind of coated glass designed to reflect heat. ClimaGuard® 365 uses the same glass-coating technology Guardian uses on high-rise commercial buildings worldwide.

That means you can offer customers high thermal performance in the home. And, as the name suggests, ClimaGuard® 365 is designed to optimise temperature regulation 365 days a year.

Whatever the weather's doing, it helps households stay more comfortable.

The word "coating" might raise alarm bells. Does that mean the glass looks stained, smeared or in some way covered?

In fact, the coating is almost invisible, leaving customers with glass that's beautifully clear as well as functional.

It can also be integrated with Morley Glass's blinds for even more control over heat and light.

All in all, ClimaGuard® 365 gives trade professionals another way to offer glazing that's good for comfort, good for energy bills and good for the planet.

What is low-e glass?

Low-e glass is a specialist, energy-efficient glass product that reflects heat while letting daylight through.

It achieves this with a low-e coating – a transparent, microscopic layer that does all the work without affecting the aesthetic of the window or door unit.

It's used in many settings wherever seasonal temperature control is a must. In summer, it deflects solar heat from outside and, in winter, it bounces radiator heat back into the room.

And while it lets daylight flood in, it also blocks most ultraviolet (UV) and infrared rays.

What is ClimaGuard® 365?

ClimaGuard® 365 is a glass product with a mission. Its aim: to provide year-round thermal insulation and solar control for residential windows and doors.

Its high performance means this low-e glass product can keep homes up to 9°C cooler in the summer. And when winter comes, households may be far less likely to reach for the thermostat.

The coating that facilitates this thermal control has very little visual impact on the glass and can be installed alongside integrated blinds.

What are the benefits of ClimaGuard® 365?

The key benefit of ClimaGuard® 365 is that it helps customers control indoor temperatures.

In summer, its coating – the same technology used on commercial high-rises – blocks unwanted solar radiation and reduces solar heat entering the home.

This can keep homes up to 9°C cooler. As summers become hotter, that gives customers another way to stay comfortable without relying as heavily on air conditioning.

And in winter, ClimaGuard® 365 doubles as a thermal barrier. It reflects heat from radiators back into the room, helping reduce heat loss through the glazing.

It has an impressive U-value of 1.0 W/m²K. This can help households lower their energy bills while reducing associated emissions.

Another key benefit of ClimaGuard® 365 is that this temperature regulation doesn't come at the expense of aesthetics.

ClimaGuard® 365 has a 75% visible light transmission rate, helping create bright interiors and clear, natural-looking views without an obvious tint.

And last but not least, ClimaGuard® 365 is built with blind integration in mind. This can give homeowners even greater control over the light and heat entering their property. That's an attractive additional selling point when you're specifying or supplying glazing for domestic projects.

Product specifications

ClimaGuard® 365 is a high-performance product offering high levels of thermal insulation and solar control.

In a standard double-glazed configuration, ClimaGuard® 365 delivers a Ug value of 1.0 W/m²K. That compares favourably with many modern double-glazed units.

It has a visible light transmittance rating of 75%, 13% external light reflectance, 14% internal light reflectance and 38% solar transmittance. It also has a general colour rendering index (CRI) of 95.

That makes for a neutral appearance. ClimaGuard® 365 lets plenty of daylight into the home without a pronounced tint.

ClimaGuard® 365 is supplied and fitted exclusively as part of an insulated glass unit (IGU). It can't be installed as a single pane or used as secondary glazing.

Is ClimaGuard® 365 right for your customers?

ClimaGuard® 365 is a strong option for customers replacing windows and doors who want to reduce unwanted summer heat while improving winter insulation.

The most important thing to note is that it's not an add-on. Instead, it comes as part of a double- or triple-glazed sealed unit, making it something to specify when the glazing itself is being replaced.

For customers with the budget, ClimaGuard® 365 offers a straightforward way to improve year-round comfort without compromising the appearance of their windows and doors. For installers and other trade professionals, that makes it a useful option to offer when thermal performance, solar control and visual clarity all matter.
